And there you go! The soundtrack to a game that never existed.
If you're wondering what happened when I went to GDC, it was a massive failure. :|
I used five tracks from this project in a CD sampler (I burned, like, 50 copies - it took forever). I made business cards and everything. Then I got on a plane, flew to San Francisco, and talked to precisely zero people at the conference. It was miserable. I would go to a few panels, try to work up the courage to strike up a conversation with someone, then leave with my tail tucked between my legs. I basically wandered around San Fran for a week kicking myself for being so timid and anxious.
But then, near the end of the conference, I went to the IGF Awards. This was 2010, and I hardly knew anything about the indie games scene. But here were all these weirdos making small, unique games, and people were stoked out of their minds for it.
I went home, and I licked my wounds for a while. Then someone suggested that I should try to make my own game. I thought about all the interesting small games I saw at the IGF Awards, and I said, "Yeah, maybe I could do that." I downloaded Construct, and after a couple weeks of goofing around, I got hooked.
I kind of feel like the Old Man in the cave right now. You just bombed a wall, and you had no idea that there would be some random dude in here, telling you his life story. Now I'm probably supposed to tell you that the Eastmost Peninsula is the secret.
